Centro / Mercado
The heart of the city around the central market. Walkable, lively, mid-range rents.
Benalúa
Just south of the centre, residential and good value. Close to the station and the tram.
Playa San Juan
Beachside and greener, a tram ride from both the centre and the campus. Quieter, pricier in summer.
Carolinas
Traditional and local, north of the centre. Some of the most affordable rooms in the city proper.
Casco Antiguo / Santa Cruz
The old town climbing towards the castle. Beautiful, noisy at weekends, small flats.
Getting around
Transport
The TRAM light rail is the backbone of student life here: it links Alicante centre with the Universidad de Alicante campus in San Vicente del Raspeig and runs north along the coast. The urban bus network covers the rest of the city, and the flat seafront makes cycling easy. Elche, home to the UMH, is around 30 minutes away by train or bus.
